Chances are the battery cable ends needs tightened or replaced. Or you need a new battery, or you may need a new starter, or you may need a new alternator. I started with the most simple things first.
solenoids are what clicks, yes it will click if the battery is low.
If it makes a k-k-k-k-k-k sound, then it might be that the battery's dead.
The click is sound made by the solenoid which is an electric booster switch that cuts in the starter motor. Your battery can supply enough current to operate the solenoid but not enough to turn the engine. Suspect flat battery, corroded battery terminal or loose battery terminals . Unbolt battery clamps. Clean terminals with wire wool smear with petroleum jelly and replace terminals ensuring tight clamps. If still no go then charge battery overnight after checking fluid levels in cells.
If your car makes a clicking sound when you try to start it, try to jump the battery. If that starts it, check the electrical system and if it was the battery, replace the battery. If jumping it does not fix it, have a mechanic look at it.
