That sounds like the self diagnostics has found something wrong. If it's a LCD or DLP projection set, check to see if the lamp light is lit. If it is, time for another lamp. If not, it's an indication of something electronically wrong.
Westing house tv has a light black square in the center of the screen
Your TV has a problem. If you watch the flashing red light and count the blinks, it's actually flashing a trouble code. Maybe something like four blinks, followed by three and then repeating. The other possibility is that it's in timer mode and the flashing light is reminding you that the timer's been set.
Assuming CRT type display then when a black part is shown then if you just look at the black part with the rest of the picture covered or sheilded then you will see that the black is still grey or same as when tube is not illuminated. Bottom line-- no such thing as black on screen , only black compared to rest of picture ! I invite you to try it ! Pete
Id need to know more about whats going on. If your screen is flashing or the red light on the console is flashing you generally need a new 72-pin connector. Now if your not getting any power (no lights or flashing on TV) then its a bit more complicated. Getting a new power adapter would be my first move. If not you would need to open the NES Nintendo and test a few things with your power source and the motherboard. Hope your just getting a flashing light, easy fix.
If your LCD ViewSonic Monitor, whether close to 25 inches with a resolution of 1600x1024 or a larger size and resolution, blacks out for hours with the light flashing, there is a problem with your LCD backlight, or the electric panel in the TV. Sometimes this also causes the TV to turn back on after a few hours, struggle to remain on, and then go black again. Professional TV repair is required.

The TV is hard to see from certain angles because the LEDs only face forward and project light forward. Therefore the viewing from the sides is a black screen.

It s suggested that the screen be eye height when setting down. The thing to remember is the flat screen reflects light more than the CRT TV, don't mount the screen opposite windows or other light sources, tilting might be a help.
Reason for black screen:When the computer will not boot up, it sound like it is booting as the CPU fan is running and the lights are on. It also finds the CD ROM but it won't boot from a CD either.Sometimes when you have a computer black screen on startup and the power switch light will be green and then turns to orange or amber.
