Sicily
Sicily and Sardinia are both part of Italy. The Allies invaded Sicily in Julyu 1943 first and began having a difficult time holding them back even with support of German units. The citizens had had enough of war and losses of their fathers and sons. Italy did not want War to come to their soil and to their precious cultural cities. War on their on soil convinced them to ask for terms of surrender.
The Allies would not allow the Italians to become allies with them. They demanded surrender. While this was discussed and some ideas of landing American paratroopers in Rome to protect their government, the fighting in Sicily continued until the end of August.
After the fall of Sicily, the British 8th Army landed troops on the 'toe' of Italy and the US 5th Army embarked for a landing site further north. Italy finally announced their surrender on 8 September, the day before the invasion force landed at Salerno.
The Allies conquered the island of Sicily, which prompted the toppling of Italian dictator Benito Mussolini and the subsequent negotiations for peace with the newly formed Italian government.

Italy was under Fascist rule from 1922 until the Allied advances in 1943 caused the Italian government to fall and be replaced by one friendly to the Allies. Fascism was a right-wing, authoritarian political movement with many similarities to Nazism, but was not identical to Nazism. After the 1943 surrender of Italian forces, those portions of Italy not controlled by Allied forces were under Nazi control until liberated by the Allies.

Basically the axis invaded to conquer poland because they lost their land due to the treaty 1919 and they wanted revenge against the allies,so once the axis invaded poland they allies declared war
It was a desperate last attemp to cause the Allies to negotiate for peace
Not exactly. In August 1943, Italy forced Mussolini to resign from the throne. The Italian Government tried to negotiate a surrender where they could join the Allies but many opposed this. So they finally surrendered unconditionally on 8 September 1943. However, many Italians---civilians and ex-soldiers---were used by the Allies to aid them behind the lines. After a few months, the Allies organized the Italians into combat units called Combat Groups. They were armed and equipped by the British. There were five Italian Combat Groups by the end of the war.
All of it except for United Kingdom, Spain, Portugal, Switzerland, Sweden, Finland and the eastern most part of European Russia. He didn't actaully conquer Italy because they were allies but as time went on there were a lot of German troops defending Italy and the Italian government did pretty much whatever Germany said to do. Italy never jolined the allies
unconditional surrender and not to negotiate terms
No. They tried to negotiate a peace that would allow them to join the allegiance with the Allies after they over-threw Mussolini. But the British, especially Churchill, did not want this because they had been fighting the Italians in North Africa. The Italian government had to surrender unconditionally. Even though they surrendered, the Allies did allow some Italians to form fighting units that fought with the Allies. There were four "groups" or battalions formed and they were out-fitted with British uniforms. Most did not go into battle until the last offensive in April 1945 in the Po Valley.
