You may be thinking of the Sub-Antarctic Islands, some north and some south of 60 degrees S. (All land and ice south of 60 degrees S is governed by the Antarctic Treaty.)

There are literally several hundred individual islands including the Crozier Island Group and the Auckland Islands south of 60 degrees, and the South Georgia Islands and the South Sandwich Islands north of it.

The South Pole is the southernmost point on Earth, located at 90 degrees latitude south. Hawaii is located at about 19 degrees north latitude, so in the Northern Hemisphere rather than the Southern Hemisphere.

The Solomon Islands are closer, in the Southern Hemisphere, at about 10 to 11 degrees south latitude.

However, the Falkland Islands are by far the closest, located at 52 degrees south latitude. Thus only about 38 degrees of latitude separate the Falkland Islands from the South Pole, compared to 79 and 109 for the Solomon Islands and the Hawaiian Islands, respectively.
