Firearms are rarely used in the US as a means of execution. One of the few in modern history was that of Gary Gilmore in Utah. Gilmore was sentenced to death for a series of robberies and murders. He was executed with 5 Winchester Model 94 rifles in 30-30 caliber. Following WW 2 there were executions of some Nazis for crimes. These were trials by a military court, and execution was carried out with the standard US Army M1 Garand rifle.
