European Viper (Adder), Taipan, Puff Adder, Boomslang, Black Mamba (which are actually green !)

According to their venom rating (LD-50)are:

1- Belcher's Sea Snake (Hydrophis Belcheri)

2- Inland Tiapan (Oxyuranus Microlepidotus).

3- Common Indian Krait (Bungarus Caeruleus).

4- Philippine Cobra (Naja Philippinensis).

5- King Cobra (Ophiophagus Hanna).

6- Russell's Viper (Vipera Russellii).

7- Black Mamba (Dendroaspis Polylepis).

8- Yellow Jawed Tommygoff (Bothrops Asper).

9- Multibanded krait (Bungarus Multicinctus).

10- Tiger Snake (Notechis Scutatus).

11- Jararacussu (Bothrops Jararacussu).

Other deadly snakes (by toxicity or injected dosage) :

Australian Brown Snake (Pseudonaja textilis)

Common Taipan (Oxyuranus scutellatus)

Saw Scaled Viper (Echis carinatus)

Death Adder (Acanthopis antarcticus)

(If bitten and venom is injected)

The most venomous snake on earth is the Belcher's Sea Snake (Hydrophis Belcheri) or the Faint Banded Sea Snake, some consider the Inland Taipan (Oxyuranus microlepidotus) an/or the Beaked Sea Snake (Enhydrina schistosa) to be the most toxic, however, with recent and more accurate (LD-5-) studies as of 2010 prove the Belcheri has a 100 times more toxic venom then the two above or any other snake on earth.

It has a paddle-like tail, breathes air and can hold it's breath up to 8 hours, it's size ranges from 1-1/2 ft (0.5m) to 3 ft (1 m), a few milligrams of venom can kill over a thousand people.

It's habitat has a wide range in the South Pacific.

You have some classifications of snakes:

Vipers: These typically have large jaw muscles, located behind the eyes. Poisonous Vipers: Gaboon, Pit. (Pit Vipers and Rattlesnakes are closely related)

Cobra: Thier head is usually the same width as the head. If threatened, Cobras flatten a hood on their "Neck", and stand up straight.

Poisonous Cobras: Spitting, King, Black Mamba (Is technically a cobra)

Python: Pythons have large jaw muscles, but not like the Vipers. Typically tree dwelling, Pythons can grow to over 30 feet long and don't usually have venom. Pythons and constrictors are closely linked. Both genus kill their prey by suffocation.

Pythons: Reticulated (The Longest Snake in the world), Common Tree, Emerald Green Tree.

Anaconda: Found mostly in marshes and swamps, anacondas can be identified by their sheer width and their hardy looking head. Anacondas also constrict their food.

Anacondas: Green (The heaviest snake breed in the world), Yellow and Dark-Spotted.

If you are looking for a pet snake, Californian Kingsnakes are usually recommended by pet shop owners, as are cornsnakes.

Personally, I recommend The West American Hog-nose. These snakes are very docile, as long as you feed them with gloves, so they can't link your scent with the food. I've owned these in the past and would readily get another, or recommend them.
