I'm not entirely sure but i think:
If you got trench foot and nothing could be done - your foot was amputated and you probably died of infection because the hygienical conditions were atrocious
If you got shellshock - believe it or not, there were phyciatrists at a trench hospital that could help troops get back to their normal selves before they were sent back to their hell hole of a trench.
