Totally mistrust politicians trying to play general in a war.

Do not go to war unless your citizens are behind you and your government is all in and committed to win in as short a time as possible.

The military lesson learned can only be applied to another nation, such as the former USSR or Red China. W/O such a nation to fight...those lessons cannot be applied. The lesson was briefly applied during Desert Storm against Iraq in Jan/Feb '91. That highly successful (ground) campaign lasted only 100 hours and cost less than 200 US personnel (deaths). From a military stand point, it was an EXCELLENT operation...and was led by two Viet Vets Swartzkoph and Powell both of whom served in the Americal Division in South Vietnam.

With no nation to fight and only terrorist/gang/insurgent/guerrilla type wars...the ONLY way to combat them is with specialized warfare...Special Forces. Snipers are by far the best way to terminate those problems. Long, medium, and short range eliminations at only a dollar per terrorist (the price of one center fire rifle cartridge). Instead of 12 persons firing a thousand dollars worth of bullets and hitting nothing and becoming casualties themselves (as is mostly the case in the first 8 years of the 21st century), it would be far more COST EFFECTIVE to utilize ONE trained sharpshooter and ONE bullet to terminate the problem(s). An excellent example was those African hi-jackers (whom the press desired to make heros of by crowning them with a "Pirates of the Caribbean" header)...those criminals were killed with one shot apiece by USN SEALS. The US taxpayer paid about $10.00 (ten dollars) to eliminate those hi-jackers. And no US Sailor was harmed.

Thats how ya do it!
