Aboriginals had an easier life
Paradise
At the time of colonial settlement in Australia, the Aborigines viewed the land in the same way as they do now, which is as the source of their spiritual life. The land is the very heart and soul of aboriginal culture and tradition. To be separated from one's homeland is, for the indigenous Australians, like being cut off from one's very life source, and they suffered deeply when their land was taken from them following European settlement.
The aboriginal way of life did not include democracy in the sense that white man's society understands it. Aboriginal life was very patriarchal, with no room for democratic vote regarding the chiefs and elders of the tribes.
James Cook's visit to Australia's eastern coast led to a complete change of life for the Aborigines eighteen years later. James Cook recommended Australia (or New South Wales, as he named the eastern half) as an ideal place to establish a convict settlement. This led to the start of European settlement in Australia with the arrival of the First Fleet in 1788, and the subsequent displacement of the Aborigines, along with the eventual loss of the traditional way of life.
The Aborigines were, and indeed, still are, a tribe of black hunter gatherers living in Australia. They respect the land and live on it; live with nature you might say, while white man came and built on the land and moulded the land to them, rather than attempting to mould to life in the land.
