The Australian Labor Party was founded in 1891 by the labour movement. It has been in Government in every state and territory and in the Commonwealth Parliament. It is the only political party to have been represented in every Commonwealth Parliament since 1901. The first Labor Prime Minister was Chris Watson in 1904 and Andrew Fisher was the first Labor Prime Minister to lead a majority government. The Labor Party has suffered from splits in 1916, the early 30s and the 1950s. It was again elected Federally in 2007 under Kevin Rudd who is the current Prime Minister and is in power currently in every state and territory except Western Australia.
