Once though to be of Indian ancestry, recent DNA gives SE Asia as the closest link. They howl more often than than bark, but do have a short bark. Not easy to tame, but many Dingoes are now the descendants of cross breeding with domestic dogs, so are easier to domesticate. The top land predator of Australia, they are a real problem for graziers.
