I have had similar problems. I would try replacing the air charge temperature sensor. If you still have trouble, try heating the sensor by taping it to a radiator or heater hose. If this fixes the problem, heated air from the shroud around the exhaust manifold is not reaching the air cleaner, causing the sensor to read to cold of a temperature and making the engine run too rich. Hope this helps.
Ignition wires and the distributor cap need to be checked for cracks that allow cross flow of electricity from one wire to another. At night spray water on the wires and cap to see the sparks while engine is running. Replace wire set and cap as needed..
Ford built a 462 which was installed in the Lincoln from 1966-68. Ford also produced a 12 cylinder 448 cubic inch engine in 1932-33. These are the largest Ford car engines I know of.
1.carbon buildup in carburator 2. vacum leak not a sure thing but they are the most likely causes
Ford's Probe shared its chassis and powertrain with Mazda's MX-6. So these 2 cars have the same transmission. The Mazda 626 may have the same transmission but not sure about that one.
Only the 2.3L HSC Inline 4 will fit in the 1986 Mercury Topaz. If everything in the engine bay were gutted, perhaps something larger such as a 3.0L V6 from a 1992-1994 model MIGHT fit but it would require a complete running 92-94 Ford Tempo or Mercury Topaz with the V6 engine as a donor car (and, if you could find such a car, it would be more worth your time/money to invest in it v.s. a 1986 model). The automatic transmission from a Taurus WILL NOT WORK in a Tempo/Topaz.
have vehicle scanned to determine the problem
A 1994 Ford Escort will experience rough running with the AC on if the compressor is going out or the idle is set too low. The additional load produced by the compressor puts a strain on the engine.
A Ford Explorer that runs rough may be experiencing a clogged fuel filter, dirty air filter, or worn spark plugs. A proper tune-up can solve most problems associated with an engine running rough.
I dont understand what it is that you are asking. Is your engine still running after 5 miles? Does it run rough at that point? If it is running rough, I would check out the automatic thermostat for your choke. On a 1990 model it may be all rusted up. This will cause the engine to run real rough and consume a lot of fuel.
Low fuel pressure, clogged air filter or off timing can all cause rough running. There could be sensor issues or more serious engine internal problems.
Do you need the engine to be running when adding transmission fluid to a 1995 ford aerostar
Whats wrong when an 86 ford aerostar keeps trying to start after the engine is running?
If the check engine light is flashing that means an engine cylinder misfire has been detected . You can drive it in for repair , just avoid any rapid acceleration or deceleration because you can damage the catalytic converter
A problem has been detected with the EMISSION CONTROL SYSTEM if the symbol of an engine lights up solid in your gauge cluster when the engine is running . If the engine symbol is flashing , an engine misfire has been detected
50 to 85 psi engine not running. 25 to 35 psi engine running.
I am having the same problem, and poor acceleration!!
