What makes rebuilding or replacing the Transmission on a 1996 Ford Taurus more difficult than rebuilding or replacing transmissions on other cars?

The transmission in all Tauruses (the original AXOD transmission, and the later AX4S and AX4N) is a front wheel drive transaxle. For starters, in order to remove that transmission from the vehicle, the engine MUST be supported by a brace and the FRAME must be removed. Secondly. the transmission and the differental on that transaxle are housed in the same case. which makes it that much more complex to work on. Third, the pump and that valve body are ONE assembly.
