The transmission in all Tauruses (the original AXOD transmission, and the later AX4S and AX4N) is a front wheel drive transaxle. For starters, in order to remove that transmission from the vehicle, the engine MUST be supported by a brace and the FRAME must be removed. Secondly. the transmission and the differental on that transaxle are housed in the same case. which makes it that much more complex to work on. Third, the pump and that valve body are ONE assembly.

Replacing a transmission is more costly, rebuilding a transmission is the least costly. Either way make sure you go to a reputable shop and get a guarantee for the replacement or rebuild.
You may not need a new transmission entirely. You may just have to get your transmission rebuilt and they mey just end up replacing those gears instead of rebuilding the entire thing. Simply take your vehicle to a shop that specializes in transmissions and see what they can do for you. Best Of Luck
Try replacing the clutches in the transmission.... It might also need a new torque converter as well they sometime do go out when this happens
unless your into custom fabricating cross members and drive shafts, i'd recommend replacing it with the original 4L60E transmission.
I think you should replace it. The cost in the long run to keep rebuilding all the parts that are falling apart will be more expensive than just replacing it. Also replacing it will prove to be safer too. A website I found on this is http://www.ehow.com/about_5474647_new-transmission-vs-rebuilding.html .
When one rebuilds a transmission, one advantage of doing so is that the entire unit is taken apart, and then new parts are used to repair it. With these new working parts the transmission is restored to a 'like new' condition. Replacing a transmission involves installing a used transmission. The condition of this transmission is usually unknown due to the fact that most used transmissions are taken from junk yards. You may end up with a faulty transmission that would end up costing you even more in the long run.
Replacing the five-speed transmission with a brand-new five-speed transmission will cost approximately $3500. Replacing the transmission with a rebuilt transmission will cost approximately $2500.
you've got two options, replacing(cheaper) or rebuilding the engine
Inside the transmission. This is a non serviceable item. The transmission must be removed and broken apart to access the filter. No need to worry about it. When it needs replacing, the transmission will need rebuilding at the same time. Change your fluid as outlined in your owner's manual, and it will last for the life of the transmission. Use only Honda transmission fluid no matter what anyone tells you!!! Honda's shift better with OEM fluid.
If they're the same engine and transmission, yes. If they're different engines and transmissions, some modification may be required, e.g., you're replacing a 305 with a 4L60E transmission with a 454 and 4L80E transmission, or you're replacing an auto with a manual or vice versa.
It all depends on your vehicle. I had an older van that needed a new one and they wanted close to $2500. Before you think about replacing it, I would suggest that you look at all of your options including rebuilding your current one or even getting rid of your car and buying a new one.
Yes, it is worth replacing the transmission instead of getting a new car. You will have to pay thousands for a new car, but your transmission may only be $2,000.
