This indicates the brake parts are loose - which is in some ways 'normal' - except...
There's a large spring that is intended to eliminate the looseness and put tension against the various parts. Sometimes it's referred to as the anti-rattle spring.
Typically you can see this by looking through the wheel spokes going across the outside portion of the brake assembly.
These have been known to come loose, and even fall off.
Not really a big deal - pop the wheel off, get the brake hardware kit which has the springs in it, and put the new one in.
If the brakes haven't been done lately, this might be a pre-warning indicator that it's time.
Story: this just happened to me with my Contour - the spring was slightly bent out of shape, but I tried it anyways. 2 days later my daughter was whining at me about the brakes. Spring had fallen off. $7 for the kit, 15 minutes to jack the car up, etc etc.
My lesson learned: if in doubt, replace it.

Your brakes are probably getting low and they are rubbing against the rotor.
Alot of cars have whats called a squealer on the front brakes . . . it makes the brakes squeal when you use them. . . if it doesn't then a good indicator is grinding cause that's telling you that the brake pads have wore down to nothing.
i changed the brakes on a ford ranger truck 3.0 engine and then its making a ground noise at the driver side front sideat the left
Well I seem to have a similar situation.. I would say your 'ping' is a bit of a 'sprong' on my 95 Windstar. Further the brake pedal seems to bind, makes the sound and not engage the brakes.. I can apply more pressure and pass through the bind to engage the brakes or with some pumping of the pedal the binding dissipates and the brakes engage properly.. I was wondering if this is similar to your situation? Unfortunately I do not have the answer; I am on the 'net today looking for information! Should I find any info pf value I will post here.. You need to look for the obvious from underneath while someone is bouncing the cars bumper. If no luck, one area to look at is the front brake pad anti- rattle clips; possible missing or broken. Good luck.
The friction between 2 objects makes them squeak
Both, but there's a built in bias that makes the front brakes engage faster and harder. As the car slows down its weight shifts towards the front wheels, so if both front & rear were braked evenly hard the rears would lock up and cause the car to spin out.

There could be hundreds of different things that could rattle. Give us more details. A common rattle is from the catalytic converter. The inside breaks and pieces get into the exhaust and rattle.
