You need to look for the obvious from underneath while someone is bouncing the cars bumper. If no luck, one area to look at is the front brake pad anti- rattle clips; possible missing or broken. Good luck.

If it is a V6, it is located in front between engine and the cooling fans.
If you will walk outside, find the Alero and crawl under the rear of the vehicle and look up you will see the fuel tank.

I had this problem and tweaked the throttle and replaced the catalytic converter - fixed.
It's probably a broken engine mount. I have an 04 Alero and mine was broken. Jerking stopped when I replaced it.
there are 3 transmission mounts on the car. Drivers side front, drivers side rear, and a center mount as well
i have a 2001 olds alero 3.4 V6 and the thermostat on mine is underneath the throttle body...this may vary from your '99 vehicle, and it also may vary depending on your engine size
The Alero is made by Oldsmobile not Chrysler. My first suspicion would be a failed fuel pump or clogged fuel filter.
