The mosaics of Ravenna are made with a glass tile called Smalti. Smalti is a handmade, handcut glass made today in much the same way that it has been made for the last 2000 years. It's well know for its vibrant colors and reflectivity. There are only three producers of authentic traditional smalti today, all of which are in Italy. The oldest is Angelo Orsoni of Venice, Italy. To find more information about smalti, you can go to www.mosaicsmalti.com where there is detailed information about the production of Orsoni smalti and mosaic gold. You can also go directly to Orsoni's website... www.orsoni.com Lynn Moor
