It has a built in timer. You can adjust how long they stay on with the sliding lever located on the rear view mirror.
I had to take my mountaineer to a mercury dealer and it took them about 5 minutes. They connected my car to a computer and the computer gave them the code. Its been working ever since they also showed me how to change it if I wanted. Try that!
Unhooking the battery for about 20 minutes should be more than enough to resed the computer.

Hey Fred==Your car probably has auto headlights and has a module under the dash to control them. The module is bad. goodluckJoe How long do they stay on? They're supposed to stay on for about 3 to 5 minutes.

It depends on the model radio you have, you can Google 1999 owners manuals for your truck and download a free pdf. But 97-2000 had numerous probs w/ radio. For most models you hold down the clock button or RDS button for a couple seconds then use the seek button till you get to hours the push the button again till you get to minutes. Alot easier to go here 1999 mercury mountaineer owners manual pdf
Easiest way is to disconnect the battery cable (negative) for a couple of minutes, then reconnect. This clears the computer. If everything is OK, Check Engine will stay off.
45 min before both sunset and sunrise
it takes about 3-4 minutes for light to travel to mercury
Legally (at least in Missouri) headlights are required 30 minutes before sundown until 30 minutes aftersunrise.
Approx 253,300 minutes.
Most states require you to turn on your headlights a half an hour (30 minutes) BEFORE sunset. (That is based on my experience, driving mostly in the Northeast.)
If a Ford Explorer headlights blink on and off after 10 minutes of driving, it is highly probable that there is a short bad overdrive pump. Rest the car and clean the grounds. Also check for loose or broken wires.
The mean distance from Mercury to the Sun is 58 million km, or approximately 3.2 light-minutes. It takes the Sun's light from 2 1/2 to 3 3/4 minutes to reach Mercury. The orbit of Mercury varies from 28,583,820 miles (46,001,200 km, 0.307499 AU) to 42,760,839 miles (68,816,900km, 0.466697 AU)
Where I live it is 30 minutes before sunset and 30 minutes before sunrise that you are supposed to have your headlights turned on.
Mercury (3.2 minutes), Venus (6 minutes), Earth (8.3 minutes), Mars (12.7 minutes) and Jupiter (43.3 minutes).
From Earth to Mercury would take around 5 minutes.
It really depends on the current distance of Mercury from The Sun. The orbit of Mercury (and of all the planets) is not perfectly circular. There are times Mercury is closer to The Sun than other times. When it's at its closest, or perihelion, Mercury is a little over 28.5 million miles from The Sun, and light takes just over 2 minutes and 33 seconds to travel from The Sun to Mercury. When Mercury is at is farthest distance, or aphelion, it is almost 43.4 million miles from the Sun, and light takes just over 3 minutes and 53 seconds to travel from The Sun to Mercury. So, based on the dates that Mercury is at aphelion and perihelion, your answer is: On August 21st, 2009, light takes 3 minutes and 53 seconds to travel from The Sun to Mercury On October 4th, 2009, light takes 2 minutes and 33 seconds to travel from The Sun to Mercury.
