Alexander Hamilton was never elected President (or Vice-President). He served as the first Secretary of the Treasury under President Washington from 1789 until his resignation in 1795, and never held public office again. Hamilton was killed as the result of a duel with Vice-President Aaron Burr in 1804.

How did the federalists try to convence the public to ratify the Constitution?

Alexander Hamilton was the Father of the Federalist Papers. He conceived of the idea a month after the Constitutional Convention had approved the US Constitution on September 17, 1787. He finished the first while traveling down the Hudson River from Albany to NYC. He invited William Duer and Gouverneur Morris but Duer wasn't up to the task and Morris was too busy. Then Hamilton got John Jay and James Madison to join his as coauthors. To find out more, got to the Alexander Hamilton Awareness Society and look at their September newsletter.
