A grinding noise when braking can occur when the brake pads are going bad. You are hearing the brake grinding on the metal discs.
You will hear a grinding or whining noise.
Sounds like the power brake booster is bad. Get it checked out.
Perhaps worn brake linings? Bad wheel bearing?
Noise for one thing, but to be sure hold the brake and put the vehicle in drive, if you hear a clunk it may be bad, keep switching from reverse to drive to hear it really good, then climb under and try to move the shaft to verify, it should not move side to side.
Bad trans, bad APPS, failing alternator causing electrical noise on APPS circuit, bad lift pump causing electrical noise on APPS circuit, bad brake light switch, dirty grounds on batteries and block, etcBad trans, bad APPS, failing alternator causing electrical noise on APPS circuit, bad lift pump causing electrical noise on APPS circuit, bad brake light switch, dirty grounds on batteries and block, etc

It could be just tire noise or a bad wheel bearing. latly its been grabbing help
The power brake booster may be going bad.
More info, please. Namely, are you talking about an air brake system? You should hear some air as you apply and release the brake, but you shouldn't hear a continuous air sound as the brake is applied - if so, you've probably got a compromised air line or a bad brake chamber.
Could be a bad tire? Could be a bad wheel bearing?
If you are not losing brake fluid I would say the master cylinder is bad. Can you tell what direction the occasional noise is coming from?
