My trans am gt 1994 with a 5.7 recomends premium fuel. ive ran the car with both regular and premium . It runs fine with regular but you can definetly feel the difference. it just runs stronger with premium and is probably better for the injectors

The 2.2 liter VTEC (H22A) engine recommends top grade (premium) fuel due to higher compression. You may use lower grade (lower octane) fuel but run the risk of damaging the engine and will surely reduce engine performance and reduce fuel economy.

Stock engine can run on 85 to 89 octane without too much problem. A higher octane would be preffered if the engine is being used harder such as towing and or used in the mountains. Older engines can benefit from a higher octane as it will burn more freely to make up for the higher compression caused by the formation of carbon on top of the pistons
