Currently horses in the US are not allowed to be used for pet food. In times past however pretty much the entire horse was used with the exception of the hooves , mane and tail. Those items were used in the production of glue, jewelry, furniture, and strings for Musical Instruments.

Other than the mouth , they have little wiskers all around the muzzle they are used to feel around to know what they are eating that's why you shouldent shave those off while you are grooming and cliping the horse.
