What problems can occur from engine oil overfill
If you mean low oil or fluid in the transmission, then YES, it will lead to shifting problems. Low engine oil will not affect shifting.
The light is NOT a low oil light. It is a low OIL PRESSURE light. You can drive it until the engine seizes. Of course internal engine damage will start to occur as soon as the light comes on and you have no oil pressure if you continue to drive the vehicle.
Using 5W-30 oil in summer, my Catera's low oil pressure warning and light will come on when the engine is hot. But with 10W-40 oil this condition will not occur. Oil pressure gauge may indicate low pressure, but not enough to trigger the warning or the light.
Oil level is low. Serious engine damage will occur if this is not corrected. Check the oil level!
Maybe you added too much oil? Overfilling can cause just as many problems as being too low on engine oil. Be sure to check the dipstick after adding oil.
engine burning oil
Overfilling oil is not recommended. If engine temperatures become high enough the pressure will cause oil to leak out of the filter and dirty engine parts. If it enters into the air box, problems will occur.
It is either time for a oil and filter change or the engine is low on oil.
The check engine light on a Mazda Tribute gives warning of potential problems. It can signal overheating, low oil, or engine misfires.
The oil light being on indicates low or no oil pressure. Low oil pressure can be caused by: Engine is too low on oil. Oil filter is plugged up. Oil pump has failed. Oil pressure switch has failed. You should not run the engine until the oil pressure problem is solved, major engine damage may occur otherwise. The tapping may be caused by the hydraulic valve lifters being out of oil. A loud knocking noise may mean your engine bearings are already burned out.
The light, being illuminated, indicates a fault in the system. Until that fault is remedied, the lamp will not reset itself. Faults could be: * low engine oil level * engine oil level too high (yes, damage can occur from too much oil) * oil pressure is too low
