It depends on what you mean as basic function. If you mean as a web browser, there are tons of them, but if you mean as an internet suite, there are two alternatives: Load Firefox with extensions so it works as an email client, torrent downloader, etc. or install SeaMonkey, which is basically Firefox with a whole internet suite.
