Gay people do not have the same rights as straight people. The major rights that gay people are fighting for today are:

  • The right to marry the person they love
  • The right not to get fired just for being gay
  • The right to adopt children (in some areas)
  • The right for healthy gay men to donate blood and organs
  • The right to walk down the street and not be harrassed or attacked

  • Yes. In fact, all people have rights.
  • There is a concept called 'natural rights.' It explains that each and every human being has specific rights, though they may not be listed. These are fundamental rights that no one should be denied regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, etc. So in answer to your question everybody has rights or deserves rights, based on the simple fact that they are a human being. Now there is a debate as to what rights gays should and shouldn't have. In the U.S., for example, gays have all the rights listed in the Bill of Rights. These include freedom of religion, freedom of speech and expression, etc. But there is a debate as to whether they deserve marriage equality. Also, though gays have equality rights they are not always treated equally.
  • Of course gays have rights they're still living after all! EVERYONE HAS RIGHTS: humans, animals, etc. What would make you think they didn't? Just because someone is sexually attracted to the same sex doesn't mean they don't have rights.
  • Everything that lives and breathes has rights. We all have the right to have rights
  • Gays have some rights but not all the rights heterosexuals do. For instance in the US we can only marry in Massachusetts and California, but we can have civil unions in a couple of other states. Many states however do not allow gays to adopt, but in Massachusetts if a lesbian couple were to have a baby (one would get pregnant) and there is a paper stating that the sperm donor wants nothing to do with the baby then the mother's spouse will be listed as the baby's father. We are still fighting to get the same rights as straights
  • Depends where you're specifically talking about, they will differ drastically from country to country, state to state and locale to locale, ranging from full, meaning equal in all ways to rights enjoyed by straight people to none at all.
  • In most civilized countries, gay relationships are becoming more and more common, and new improved rights are being introduced, such as gay marriage, gay adoption, etc. So, yes, in nearly all cases, gay people have the same rights as heterosexual (straight) people. Although, as said above by the last contributor, in some countries, homosexuality is seriously frowned upon, and in some, is even a crime.
  • In Canada, we are also granted the exact same rights as any Hetero couple in so far as taxes, health plans, etc. So here in Canada there is no longer any distinction between a Gay couple and a Hetero couple.
  • Quote from Answers.com "The basic rights and freedoms to which all humans are entitled, often held to include the right to life and liberty, freedom of thought and expression, and equality before the law."
  • I would add dignity, respect and the right to love and marry.

Not in India

Added: It depends entirely on which nation you are asking about.

Absolutely. No matter a person's sexuality, the same rights should apply to all people on Earth. It's ridiculous and wrong, how some people treat others because of the gender that they are attracted to. Being homosexual is not disgusting, or unnatural - it's beautiful, because it's love. And love will always vanquish hate.
Yes. Everyone who pays taxes deserves to be treated equally!
