There are actually two sets.
The first are the 'mitzvot' which are the commands found in the Torah.
The second is 'halacha'. Halachot are the Jewish religious laws based on the mitzvot (they explain the details of how to keep the mitzvot) and are found in the Talmud.

Religious Jews live by the Torah, by obeying its commands and beliefs.Link: Jewish beliefs
Some examples of the commands:
And many more.
The laws have various reasons. Some (such as the Passover) serve to reenact or remember events of our history.
Some (such as saying the Shema-prayer) serve to reiterate our belief in God.
Some of the laws (such as those of ritual purity and kosher food) serve to sanctify us.
Some (such as the laws of torts) serve to maintain an orderly and just society.
Some (such as the law against breaking a vow) serve to prevent bad character traits.
Some (such as the command to offer help) serve to engender good character traits.
And all of the commands serve to subjugate us to God's will (especially those commands for which no explanation is easily apparent).
Note that the Torah "as is" isn't exactly what Judaism observes. Rather, it's the Torah together with the details provided in the Talmud, which is the Oral Law that was handed down together with the laws of Moses. Otherwise, the verses of the Torah often lack enough detail to be fulfilled as is.

It was not so much a crucifixion of the Jews as a persecution. The Jews were persecuted by the Egyptians because they refused to accept the pagan religion that was being forced upon them. The Jews believed that God would protect them from whatever persecution they would suffer, and God delivered. He sent people like Moses to lead the Jews to the Promised Land. After Moses set God's people free, the rest is history!
biochemical instructions
A program is a set of instructions that tell a computer what to do. In the computer, those instructions are called opcodes and make up an instruction set.
This set of instructions is called a gene.
God's word to the Jews is true for all time. The horrific treatment they received at the hands of wicked men changed this not one bit. Rather, it confirms that evil men have long tried to eradicate the Jews at least partly because they are a race set apart to God.
The instructions for a computer are called programs.
