What should you bring when babysitting?

Purchase a bag (Or use your schoolbag, or find something at a garage sale) and pack it full of goodies. Remember, anything that seems old to you will be new to them. If you truly cannot find books or games in your house, I urge you to go to garage sales or resale store like Goodwill. You can normally find books, games, or movies for $1 at a garage sale. If you want to be asked back, make sure the kids have FUN!

Along with a mini first-aid kit, here are a few things you can bring:

For all children

• Coloring pages/books and crayons (Find some online, crayola.com and nickjr.com has some)
• Balloons (Blow them up when you get there)
• Books (Kid related, and not too long. Visit your local library.)
• Puzzles (This would obviously not work for children under the age of 3, and don't bring a puzzle over 100 pieces)
• Games (Make sure they're age-appropriate. A deck of cards to play memory or concentration would be good. For older kids, Uno or Disney Sorry would be good. Nothing too hard like chess.)
• Clean movies (Nothing over PG, and check any PG movies with parents. Along with any old, classic Disney (Sleeping Beauty, Aladdin,) a few clean G-rated films are: Dora the Explorer, Veggietales, Barbie, The Swan Princess, Princess Protection Program, Ratatouille, Toy Story, A Bug's Life, and most kids/parents wouldn't have a problem with Monsters Inc. For kids 7+, a few clean, fun movies are: Hotel for Dogs, Mandie and the Cherokee Treasure, Despicable Me, Enchanted, Fly Away Home, Dreamer: Inspired By A True Story, Ice Princess, The Princess Diaries, Ice Age, Astro Boy, Balto, The Karate Kid, Dolphin Tale, Charlotte's Web)
• CDs (Make sure all are age-appropriate, with no sexual content, violence, or profanity. Just to stay safe, bring kid CDs.)
• DS or another small electronic (If you have one, bring a DS and E rated games they will enjoy. I do not recommend any Apple products)
• Snacks for the kids (Check with parents beforehand!)
• Quick-dry nail polish for girls (Check with parents beforehand!)
• Miscellaneous socks, stickers, colored paper, markers, and crayons (For craft. The socks can be used for sock puppets!)
• Items to put on a play
• Something to do after the kids go to bed for you (A book or game would be good. Don't bring any R-rated films or any Horror movies. Also don't use headphones or earbuds, so you can hear if the kids need you)

Don't wear anything skimpy, inappropriate, ripped or long jewelry. Give the kids your undivided attention. Don't text or use the phone (unless its your parents or their parents) and do NOT invite friends over. If you play with the kids and they have fun and are safe, you definitely will be asked back.
