The question doesn't say if you suffered the accident or you caused the accident. There is a BIG difference. All states and locales may have varying laws on this but as a general rule, the jurisdictions I am aware of require that accidents causing over $100. in damages be reported within 24 hours of their occurrence, or of their being found. Yours may vary - check with local law enforcement. On the other hand - If you caused the accident and haven't reported it, you are guilty of 'Hit and Run,' and could be prosecuted for that offense.

How can you find someone's auto insurance policy?

You can't unless they tell you who they are insured with. Who a person is insured with or even if they have insurance is a private matter between the insured and the insurance company. Now, if there is an accident and the police come to the scene they will collect that information and put it in the accident report. This is why it is crucial to always call the police to the scene of the accident no matter how much the other person begs to give them a break. Always, always!!! call the police to the scene of an accident. The exception is if the accident is on private property.

What should I do if I have been involved in an auto accident and the other person doesn't want the police to be called?

You should call the police regardless of whether or not the other person wants the police called, especially if there are any injuries. A police report will give you an official account of the accident to give to the insurance companies, will have all of the information about both parties and will help establish which company is responsible for the repair and any medical costs. If the person leaves they may face additional problems and if the police do not come you can go to the local precinct and fill out a report there.
