What should you do if your 19-year-old daughter is dating a 46-year-old man who does not even have a decent job?

== It is creepy and crazy that your daughter is dating a man that is 46 years old and thinks that its okay to to that. His job isn't important, it's the fact that your daughter might be sleeping with a 46 year old man who is old enough to be her father. What happens if she gets pregnant? He is going to be useless in the role of father to that child. 1) You have a friend who has a daughter and her daughter is dating a 46 year old man and she wants your advice, without thinking about your daughter, what would you say? 2) If you were the daughter and you mom found out that you were dating a man that old what would she say to you? == I think that you should explain to your daughter why you think that it is wrong to do this and what they may end up like in their relationship. Explain all your feelings about this and try to make her understand what she is putting herself through. == That's screwed up. DO NOT forbid their relationship, she'll just get mad at you for that and go to him even more strongly, she might even do something rash and stupid just to get back at you. And then even if she does have doubts she might subconsciously not even realize them because breaking up would be what you want. Okay, so I would just talk to her about it, ask what she sees in him. If she gets upset and declares that she loves him ask for real reasons and if you're calm maybe she might realize that he isn't that great. But consider what if they really are in love, he's not being a creeper and this is the real thing. The ages are pretty creepy but try to at least have an open mind when talking to her, it will make her less defensive. == That is WRONG in so many ways. You can't just "Oh if they're in love then it's OK." In real life people get hurt, physically, emotionally, and psychologically. == In my opinion, said situation is creepy and honestly a little unsettling. Some people (men and women included), as sick as it is, just go for the younger type for looks and/or think they can take advantage of them. Make sure your daughter (or who's daughter you are talking about) knows what she is doing. Makes sure she knows him...but talk to her about this because this isn't exactly a normal situation . He may NOT be wanting anything other than her love, but you should be careful! Will he be able to provide for her? Will she be happy? Is it just a fling? Will he hurt her? One thing is for sure: teenagers truly are dumb. Not all, obviously, but everyone makes stupid and rash decisions. I know that I did as well, but nothing quite like this. Technically this is legal but I still think it is oh-so-wrong. == Sit your daughter down and explain to her why you are concerned. Be very calm and listen to what she has to say. She is obviously with this man for a reason and although you may not approve, the fact of the matter is that there is nothing you can do about it. She is legally an adult and responsible for her own actions. I know you only want the best for your daughter, and hopefully she sees that too, but perhaps she will have to learn on her own if she is not willing to listen. This is quite a simple matter, if she wants to there is nothing in the law you can do. And the more you are against it the more she will want him. It's probably a fling and wont last so the best you can do is tell her to be smart and not to get taken for a ride. And be there for her if something does happen and give support.
