in my experiences if its making no noise or a humming noise than its probably the starter but check the starter relay first. You mighy also check for loose, broken, or corroded wiring, or a burnt-out fusible link.

There should be a lock pin on the back shaft of the handle ,should be able to pop it out with a small screw driver.

yes it dose have ( trw ) one eye brow forged pistons !!!! cant remember about the crank... Yes it is a steel crank.

Try jumping it off. If it cranks remove the + side on the battery. If it shuts off the alternator is bad .If it does not shut off clean the battery terminals . Have the battery checked at the Auto Zone.
check your regulator. it maybe over charging your battery
Your local auto parts store will sell you a very inexpensive tool to remove the "C" clip behind the crank handle.
If the battery is good and fully charged but the engine will not turn over then either the starter or the ignition switch is defective. Or you have a loose or corroded connection.
