What should you do if your pet snake isn't eating?

It depends on the length of time and time of year.

Snakes have a natural cycle of estivation, which is similar to hibernation, so their appetite changes.

Also certain snakes will only eat living, moving or warm animals so try to feed it different types of rodents. I used to feed a snake at the zoo who loved eating baby mice and refused to eat dwarf hamsters, so we had to special order the mice for him and he began to eat again.

I assume your snake is healthy. Corn snakes are constrictors and rat-eaters. A wild caught baby will prefer live food. Depending on the size of the baby, I would try feeding the baby corn snake a live mouse. If the baby isn't eating mice, maybe they are too big for it. In that case, I would try a few "pinkies", baby mice, instead. Mention that you are buying "feeders" to the petstore and they will probably give you a discount. A captive born snake will prefer whatever food it was fed by the breeder. Snakes can also be trained to accept dead prey, allowing you to keep mouse/ratsicles in the freezer (thaw them well before feeding).

Some snakes like the Ball Python only eat once about every month. Others can go close to a year without eating. So I wouldn't really be concerned if your snake doesn't eat every week. Try feeding your reptile live white feeder mice (available in most pet stores) each month.
