That will be the part that is bolted to the back of the transmission and the rear driveshaft comes out of it and goes to the rear end.

It is located on the transfer case. It'll be on the drivers side of the transfer cas, right next to the front drive shaft, in about the middle of the vehicle! Good luck , it is a hard to get out!
The fill plug is on the left side of the transfer case. You remove the fill plug, and the fluid should come to the bottom of the fill plug.
quick answer...no in the 86 the transfer case driveshaft output was on the passenger side in 93 the were drivers side so unless u plan on swapping axles too then no if u switch axles then yes but that may affect steering suspension ride height clearance problems...

No it will not work in a 1997 Chevy 1500. First the case doesn't have the bosses for the neutral safety switch which is on the drivers side of the case. Second the solenoids inside the transmission are different for 1997 and 1993. Third the wiring harness inside the transmission is different for 1993 and 1997.
