Is it worth it to get the Mossberg 590 a1 rather than the Mossberg 500?

I believe that it is worth the money to get the 590A1. The Mossberg 590a1 is an extremely tough firearm, built with an aluminum receiver, metal trigger guard, and metal safety. The 590 has proven it's self in combat. I can tell you how durable the 590a1 is because I carry it with me when backpacking for 5+ days. It's not that the 500 is a bad gun. In fact if you never put your gun through the extreme you will be fine. But if you want a rugged gun with a proven reputation through mother natures worst, then the 590a1 is for you.

Can you shoot slugs in a 835 mossberg?

No. The 835 standard barrel is a backbored, oversized tube that the slug can get wedged sideways in. It's NOT safe to fire slugs of any type through it. They may work a few times....but there will come a time when it won't and it won't be pretty. You can, however, switch the 835 barrel out for a 590a1 5+1 shot (six shot, NOT a nine shot!) barrel and fire slugs through it.

What is better a Wilson combat 12 gauge or a mossberg 590a1 special purpose?

Wilson Combat's shotgun are essentially Remington 870 shotguns at their core. They're very heavily accessorized, and very high end. It really boils down to personal preferences, which can be affected by other factors, as well. Some people who use buttstocks with pistol grips find the position of the safety catch awkward on the Mossberg shotguns, while others may actually prefer it. The best answer one could give you, if you're trying to decide between the two, is to compare the two base platforms in any way possible to determine which suits you best. After that, compare cost, accessories, etc., and make a determination based off of that. Of the two, the Remington would probably be the more "modular" platform, although this may not be relevant if one is looking to buy it as a purpose built combat/defensive weapon.

Which is a better combat shotgun the Benelli or the Remington?

Based on what the US Military is purchasing, the Mossberg 590A1. The total military order for Benelli M1014 shotguns is only 20k units, whereas in the past decade alone, the Navy submitted a contract for 2,200 to 7,500 Mossbergs starting in 2004, and the Army ordered 14,818 in 2005. The Winchester and Remington shotguns were phased out of service in 2005, and for the forseeable future, the Department of Defense will only be using the Mossberg for pump shotguns, as it is the only one to pass the DOD 3443 standards. While the pump lacks the rate of fire of a semi-auto, the semi-auto lacks the ability to easily handle the less-lethal ammunition types (rubber slugs, tear gas, the new TASER XREP 12 gauge round), which aren't powerful enough to cycle the gas action. The pump is also safer for door breaching, since it can be left hammer down on a fired shell and left dangling by the sling if the operator decides to transition to another weapon (handgun or carbine) after breaching the door. Remington fans will claim that the 870 would pass the military's 3443 test easily, but as Remington never submitted a sample for testing (and the 3443 spec has been around since 1975), no one really knows.
