Most likely something around 12 mm or !/2 inch. Try slipping various wrenches on till you find the correct securely fitting one. This will broaden your knowledge of how to fix autos. - Oh, one other hint on removing hood hinges or latches. -They must go back in exactly the same position, so I always run a 'Sharpie' around the edge of the plate, to ensure correct re-fitting.
Take the grill out and remove the bolts holding the latch on.
Carefully push in the plastic grid above the licence plate. Take a long extension on a #12 socket wrench and take off the 2 bolts holding the latch to the body. Open the hood.
Start by removing the inner panel of the door after loosening the screws holding it. For non-power windows , take out the window handle and you should be able to see the latch. Unscrew the bolts holding it and remove.
A socket Wrench with an extention. There are 3 bolts you can reach, through the grill. Remove the bolts and the latch will release from the body and lift with the hood. The rest is easy!!!! RL
Just had this happen to me... hope you don't mind unbolting stuff. I had my car parked for a year, and the latch had rust shut. The hood release cable wasn't able to budge the release at all. Unbolt the bottom bolts and screws of the front fender. That should leave the top part under the hood still attached. You should be able to pry the bottom part of the fender enough to work on the latch from under the car. Pull off the bottom part of the fender as much as you can. Go underneath the car and locate the hood latch. Take a 10mm wrench and remove the three bolts holding the latch in place. Remove the hood release cable from the latch. The hood should open now. Good luck!
Begin by removing the retaining bolts from your hood latch. You can access the hood latch retaining bolts from the front grill. Once the retaining bolts are removed the hood latch assembly will come apart, releasing the hood.
standing in front of the car, it is in front of the engine, just between the hood latch and cam housing...plastic looking circle with a plug on it. it is in plain sight, and has two bolts holding on. standing in front of the car, it is in front of the engine, just between the hood latch and cam housing...plastic looking circle with a plug on it. it is in plain sight, and has two bolts holding on.
The fiero front hood release cable has an extra cable tucked inside the release lever housing. If they're both broke then you'll have to use a crowbar and lightly pry up on the hood but be extremely carefull not to break the fiberglass hood. Take a long flat tipped screw driver and remove the foam padding around the latch then take a 10mm stubby wrench and remove the 2 bolts holding the latch to the car then just raise the hood and trip the latch. Remove the old cable and install a new one.
Take the door panel off, you have to loosen the 3-4 large bolts holding the latch, once that is free, you can adjust it. jr
on the latch there are two small bolts loosen them and move the latch up then retighten
there are 2 bolts at the front that hold down the front plate with hood latch remove those bolts and the whole front plate with latch comes off.
According to my trusty Haynes manual, it's not that big a deal. The hood latch is attached to the radiator support and is attached with 2 bolts. Before replacing it, scribe a line around -- or use a Sharpie marker to outline -- the placement of the current latch. Remove the bolts and the cable release linkage. Installation is the reverse of removal. After installing the new latch using the scribed lines as a guide, check the fit of the hood. It should be flush with the fenders and the nosepiece. If it isn't, adjustments can be made by loosening the latch mounting bolts and sliding the latch up, down, left, or right and then tightening the bolts. Enjoy.
