The spark plug replacement 4.2 I6. MAY03LT·140 will fit on a 103 engine take. This does not go to any make or model with a 103 engine intake. This may vary from make or model type.

take the number one plug out of the engine. plug the wire back on. place somewhere the plug will be grounded. have someone turn the engine over and see if there is spark.
take the spark plug out of the head. then put the spark plug wire back on the spark plug. ground the plug on the engine you can do this by putting the plug any where there is metal and lay it on it. then turn engine over and see if you have spark. if not then do the same thing with just the wire by putting a Philips screw driver in place of the plug, ground it turn over the engine see if there is a spark if their is the plug is bad. if not then the coil or flywheel is bad more than likely it is the coil
The required spark plug for a 50 hp outboard engine would depend on the make, and year model of the engine.

With a compression gauge! Take spark plug out of cylinder 1, insert gauge into the hole start the engine take note of compression on the dial Engine off Insert the spark plug Do the same for all the other cylinder.
To change a spark plug you need to take off the seat and the side panel on the right side. After you do this the spark plug will be in front of the carb and on top of the engine block.
The best way is to use the spark plug socket out of the factory tool kit. If you do not have that use a normal 5/8" socket to loosen the spark plug. Use the spark plug wire to snap back on after the plug is loose and pull it out. The spark plug is at the very top of the engine, the spark plug wire is a real good indicator of its location.

Take a known good spark plug and connect it to one of the spark plug wires. Ground the plug to the block and watch the gap for spark while someone tries to start the engine.

A 1995 Chevy Van with a 454 engine will have a spark plug gap of .060 inches. A difference of .005 (give or take) should not affect the engine's starting capabilities, however.
