On most modern cars there is a solenoid that triggers when you step on the brake to release the shifter from park.
If the lever goes into gear but the transmission does not engage the solenoid is inside the transmission.
Any more accurate info requires make, model, year and engine type.
take tranny apart and replace 5th gear syncro
You have a brake pedal, and it's there for a reason. Those trucks can stop in any gear.
Either the solenoid pack or most likely the torque converter itself.
I just had this problem and had to replace the torque converter. Also the two three solenoid was bad..
Sounds like a transmission problem if your car is an automatic. It could be having problems downshifting (an example would be coming to a stop in a manual in gear. Could also be a solenoid.
No
Well, to start, the Saturn Vue wasn't available in 1994, may be your issue......
If the automatic transmission car jerks when accelerating and the dash does not indicate a gear, there is a problem with the transmission. Check the shift solenoid.
no a grinding problem is usually in side the trans and what is grinding are the gears...there are brass bushing called sincros that help transfer from gear to gear...since the "sincros" are brass they wear and when they wear there isn't the smooth transaction from gear to gear...sincros are really cheap but to have them installed gets pricey because of the labor time..
It shortens the life of your transmission by shifting in and out of gear to get the longest life you would leave it in drive at all times every time you shift in and out of gear you are putting pressure on the plates when going back in gear causing wear and tear also make shure you are completely stopped when going from forward to reverse for the best tranny life I disagree. Long periods of idling while in gear & holding the brake, such as stop lights, trains etc. generates a LOT of excess heat, which is a Trannys worst enemy. Shifting into Neutral then back into gear is not all that hard on Trannys. I don't believe the Engine is affected in either case.
If it is automatic and it grinds, that means you must come to a complete stop before shifting into reverse, or your transmission is no good
I would definitely check to see if your speed sensors are working correctly. If you own a 99 like I do, you should have 2, an input and an output. If one or both of those speed sensors stop working then the RPM gague stops working and the car will not shift.
