The most productive by far is the hoover dam, which in theory could run several months with no one to watch or look over it. If people suddenly dissapeared off the face of the Earth it would be the last place giving off power. (quite possibly)
According to the US Army Corps of Engineers National Inventory of Dams, Texas has the most with more than 7,000, followed by Kansas with more than 6,000, Missouri with more than 5,000, and Oklahoma with more than 4,700. Washington doesn't come close. It only has 763 dams. Check National Inventory of Dams Data by State for info on all US states and territories.
