The US spans a total of 6 time zones. There are 4 in what are called "The Lower 48 States", Alaska and Hawaii each have their own.

From east to west, they are:

Eastern (with an offset of UTC-5 hours)

Central

Mountain

Pacific

Alaska Time

Hawaii time

Going west they are each different from the preceding zone by 1 hour.

Indiana: several counties near the east and west borders use different time zones and several counties are also split on daylight savings time...if you look at a map that shows Indiana time zones you will see the four diarist colors marking the counties that use the different time zones. So really, Indiana for the most part shares the EST and CST time zone, but factor in daylight savings and it's varied use, you get four time zones.
