According to netstate.com: "The Panhandle State: This nickname indirectly references the physical features of the state. The borders of West Virginia tend to follow the contours of the land, winding between mountains, along mountain ridges, and along river beds. Two long, slender extensions of the state give West Virginia the nickname, "The Panhandle State." The land that extends eastward between Maryland and Virginia is referred to as the Eastern Panhandle. The strip of land that extends north between Ohio and Pennsylvania is referred to as the Northern Panhandle."

It's a region of Florida in the northwestern corner, which juts out of the state like a handle juts out of a saucepan. It is the location of Tallahassee, the State Capital. The Florida Panhandle is the place to go during the summer months. The summer is their prime season and the cool gulf breezes and the ten to fifteen degree differences in temperatures makes the Panhandle the perfect summer vacation.

The Panhandle, between Destin and Panama City offers the best accommodations at a price most families can afford. Located on the Florida Panhandle between Destin and Panama City, The Village of South Walton is a hidden treasure along Rte 30 with very close access to the beautiful blue gulf. The Village, located at SeaCrest Beach is one of the newest developments on 30A. Fine details were given to this Charleston style architecture with cobblestone lanes, slate roofs, gas lanterns, and it's own picturesque child friendly fountain that entertains children and adults from around the world.
