The United States of America does not have governors general.
There are fifty governors -- one for each state.
The National Governors Association is made up of the governors representing the individual states and territories in the USA. Their purpose is to deal with the public policies of the states which they represent.
There are currently in December 2010, 26 democratic and 24 republican governors. Post election, in 2011 there will be 29 republican, 20 democrat and 1 independent governor.
Every state has a governor, so 50 States have 50 governors.
Kentucky is a state that traditionally Democrat but votes Republican. Most are registered Democrat and Democrats tend to win the Governors election and the State House, but in Federal and State Senate races, they tend to put Republicans in office.
