As an Ohioan i can say we are just generically encoded with awesome. There is some randomness (aka luck) involved but population and geography and the results thereof play a role. Virginia had several early presidents because it was a large and wealthy state with a large population. As people populated the states farther west, Ohio was close to the center of the population and so had more presidents born there. In the past 100 years, the presidents have come from many states- New York, Ohio, New Jersey, Massachusetts. Iowa, Missouri, Kansas,California,Michigan.Georgia, Texas, , Arkansas. Hawaii. I am surprised that only one has been from Pennsylvania and I note that Florida is the largest state that has not yet produced a president. I note that Minnesota has had two strong but unsuccessful candidates and Nebraska one.
