take the SHSAT (specialized high schools admissions test) in october of 8th grade. it's reading and math, but its really hard. out of 22,000, about 800 will get into stuy. there r actually 9 specialized high schools, of which 8 of them u gotta take the shsat, and stuy is 1 of them. the board of ed takes the student with the highest score and puts him/her in the first specialized high school of their choice. then they just go down the list of scores until one of the school's seats are filled, so they put that next kid in their second choice school, and so on. ur raw score (from 0-100) is scaled into the scaled score (0-800) and only the board of ed knows the exact number to multiply them, its pretty complex. all these years, the cutoff score (u need a score higher than this if u wanna get into the first school of ur choice) was around 560 for getting into stuy. i did the math and that's around getting a 70 for ur raw score. stuy high is really a gr8 school. GOOD LUCK!!!:)

Depends on the test. If the test is harder, than you'll need a higher score. It's on average about 560, though.

good luck :-)

How many students are there in New York City public high schools?

it can range from 300-3,000 obviously depending on the school. In Manhattan i think Stuyvesant is the largest with around 3,000. However, you will need to get a high score on the specialized high school test if you want to get in. Again the number of students widely varies from school to school.
