The O2 sensor measures the amount of Oxygen that comes out of the exhaust manifold of the engine. This info is used by the computer to help adjust the fuel\air ratio into the engine. It keeps too much pollution from entering the atmosphere. Of course it is alittle more complicated than this I was just keeping it simple. Hope this helps.
