This matter moves inward and is swept up by the magnetic field lines and poured onto the star at variable rates. The friction in the disk between the gas and the dust causes the dust to start clumping together forming proplyds, and eventually planets (also helps explain why all planets are on the same plane of solar systems without getting into gravitational mechanics, they all form in the disk )
