Best Answer

a big bowl of leaves and sand-

Well, a bowl of leaves and sand might be good for a potluck if it was Autumn-themed and someone else was responsible for bringing a candle to put in it, but otherwise...

Generally potluck food falls into one of the following categories (ask the host or hostess if they don't provide a category suggestion):

Appetizer, Salad, Entree, Side Dish, Dessert, Drinks, Napkins, Utensils

What to bring and how much to make depends on how many people are attending and whether there's a theme or not.

Watergate Salad

Small pack of instant pistachio pudding

about 8 oz can of crushed pineapple

about a cup of mini marshmallows

about 8 oz (or one normal container) of Cool Whip

about 1/4 - 1/2 cup chopped walnuts or whatever you like

Mix it all together - the juice from the pineapple included. Stick in fridge for a while to let the flavors meld. It's a very old school but yummy thing. Sometimes I add some sour cream in place of some of the cool whip to keep it from being too sweet.
