There are a lot of reasons why and engine could be locked up....did it sit parked for a long time and you are restarting it for the first time? Very often a starter motor will partly engage but stick, locking up the engine. Smack the starter and it clicks back and it works again...maybe, and only for a while. You could have a loose bolt on the torque converter that locks up the engine....so there are a lot of circumstances...including overheating, burning off all the oil and scorching the cylinder walls or the more common overheating, blowing the head gasket.cracking the head, filling the cylinder with water, which does not compress.
the fact that an engine is locked up may be caused by the fact that the engine is in fact locked up
It depends on what caused it to be locked up. You will need to disassemble the engine and repair or replace any broken parts.
Repair or replace.
That is correct...
Depends on what caused the engine to lock up. Most of the time a locked up engine is very serious and will require disassembly.
