To remove the quick clip connectors you can buy a disconnect tool thru LISLE tool company. Try this ;grasp the ears of the clip and squeeze them together then push them in toward the filter and quickly pull them apart with the same motion and the connector will come off.

It was in front of the fuel tank up to 2004. On Later models it was placed inside the tank. I know, that sucks!
