Depending on where you're coming from, you can take the 1train (of the 1-2-3, the red line) to Rector Street (at Greenwich Street), the R train (of the N-R-Q, the yellow line) to Rector Street (at Trinity Place), the 4 or 5 trains (of the 4-5-6, the dark green line) to Wall Street (at Broadway), or the J-Z (the brown line) to Broad Street (at Wall Street).

What subway do you take from Penn Station to get to Broome Street?

The simplest way would be to take the Downtown A-C-E (the blue line) from 34th Street-Penn Station to Canal Street. You will exit the subway at the intersection of Canal and Varick Streets. Walk three blocks north on Varick to Broome Street (Canal Street ---> Grand Street ---> Watts Street ---> Broome Street).

What train will take you to Rector Street?

The 1 train (of the 1-2-3, the red line) will take you to Rector Street. You can also take the 4 or 5 trains (of the 4-5-6, the dark green line) to Wall Street. You will exit the subway at the intersection of Wall Street and Broadway. Walk south one block on Broadway, and turn right onto Rector Street. If you walk one block and find yourself at the intersection of Broadway and Pine Street, then you have walked north instead of south. Turn around and walk back south to Rector. You can also take the J-Z (the brown line) to Broad Street. When you exit the subway, walk north one block to the intersection of Wall Street and Nassau Street (Broad Street becomes Nassau Street when it intersects with Wall Street).Make a left onto Wall Street, and walk one block west to the intersection of Wall Street and Broadway (where the Wall Street Station of the 4 and 5 trains is).Make another left turn, and walk one block south on Broadway to Rector Street, then turn right onto Rector.See the Related Link below for a complete New York City subway map.

How long does it take on the subway from Penn Station to 168th Street?

It's about 15 to 20 minutes on the A train (which is an express train). It's about 30 to 40 minutes on the C local train. The A and C are on the A-C-E, the blue line. The 1 train (of the 1-2-3, the red line) also runs from 34th Street-Penn Station to 168th Street, but it is also a local train and there are even more stops than on the C train. So, naturally, you will want to take the A train.
