actually , it doesn't have one
4.5 Quarts. But put 4 quarts in first, then start up the car and let it idle then check fluid and add fluid if needed.
It really should be changed every 30,000 miles. It is cheaper than a transmission overhaul.
Low of A/T fluid, clogged filter, or worn bands.Low of A/T fluid, clogged filter, or worn bands.
You do this by pouring transmission fluid into the tube that your transmission dipstick is in. To check for fluid level, drive the car for a few miles to make sure everything is warmed up, then park on a level spot, with the engine running, put the transmission in drive, then in reverse, then in park. With the engine still running, remove the dipstick and wipe it clean, and reinsert it, then remove it again and check the fluid level.
Some say that only a Ford dealer could change fluid. Most all new vehicles are sealed and need to be changed every 30,000 miles. However, any well equipped transmission shop can service late model Ford transmissions, and usually for a lot less than the dealers charge. If you research this a bit on Google you can even find out how to do it yourself, but you would have to be a pretty good mechanic to do so. To change the transmission fluid on a Ford Explorer XLS you first have to jack up the vehicle and under the transmission pan there is a bold with a screw in the middle, you have to have a special tool to remove it, has a strange pattern. Once you remove those, if fluid flows out a bit, the level is fine, if none comes out you can stick ur finger in there to see if it gets wet, if not you have to pump transmission fluid into that hole until some fluid starts to come out..once that happens you plug it back up.
