3/4 ton trucks used the 4L80E. The 1/2 tons used the 4L60E transmission.

The transmission that goes with your 05 silverado would be the 4l60 or 4l69E. You have to look on the left end side of transmission for a small black computer module. If you have one on your truck then you have the 4l60E. The "E" stand for electronic.
You remove the transmission dip stick. You will need a small funnel that will fit in the tube where the stick goes in at to check fluid level in transmission. Put fluid in there.
That will be the part that is bolted to the back of the transmission and the rear driveshaft comes out of it and goes to the rear end.
Ground strap on most Chevy engines is on the rear of the passengers side head , goes to the fire wall under heater hoses then to tne frame of the truck
1/2 ton 2 pints 3/4 ton 2 1/2 to 3 pints.
If it is a 4-wheel drive theit will be on the rear of the transfur case where the drive shaft goes in it. The 2-wheel drives are on the transmission tail shaft.
That will be a 4L60E transmission.
