I've been battling with this myself. I even have the same year as you. Last time I changed the fluid I special ordered the Type-J that the owner's manual calls for. Now I am replacing my tranny and my dad being in the auto parts biz most of his life got me Dextron III cause his books says that's what it callse for. He swears that it will be allright. If he is wrong then I'm going to make him buy me a new tranny. I guess I have heard from a few different sources that Dextron III is OK, so. I've been battling with this myself.
